When we wrote the sundial, we learned that in China has only twelve units of time (all of which are two hours long.) So when we finally wrote our dial, we only had to do twelve different units to portray the whole day. Also, when the sunlight changes, the stick reflects on the different times.

My Subtractive and Additive Drawings!!
Here is my subtractive drawing:
file:///Users/student/Desktop/Photo%20on%2010-29-13%20at%208.49%20AM%20%233.jpg
This drawing was very difficult because I had to erase the parts of the drawing that had the least amount of light.
Here is my additive drawing:
file:///Users/student/Desktop/Photo%20on%2010-29-13%20at%208.48%20AM.jpg
This drawing was easier, but I am naturally a terrible drawer, so that didn't help!!
If I had to choose one or the other, I would probably choose the additive drawing because it gives you a better command of the image.
Subtractive is a very different way of drawing and it tends to do better with shading. Both ways are good, and both ways offer pros and cons.

He was only a pawn in the game of life, moving and changing at its whim. But today he’s running away from it all. He had had enough. The hellhounds were at his heels. He tried to dodge their terror, but it was too much. He’ll only be a pawn in the game of life.
Lost and Found
I had been looking all over for the thing. It meant the end of this or beginning of that. I had been searching for it for years to no avail. But then, I felt something heavy drop into my hands and there it was. We had won the game and the beginning could finally begin.

Urbanization Reflection
I wake up at 6:15 a.m. But I can never wake up on my own, and it is also never my choice to wake up at 6:15. It's my brother's phone alarm that wakes me up. EVERY DAY. AT 6:15.
This interruptance of my sleep is not always a bad thing, though. It gives me time to take a ten minute shower (using hot water), make my breakfast (usually scrambled eggs) and I am out the door at 7:30. Then my mom drives my brother to school. I finally get to school at ten to 8. Then, throughout the day I use the computer for about two hours total (for school). I text about 30 times a day and I use my phone to listen to music. Then, since I have trouble getting to sleep sometimes, I listen to my iPod for five hours while I am asleep. Also, I use my stove fifteen times a week.
These are just some of the ways that I and most middle class people in the world use energy throughout the day. When I am using the energy for these things, it always seems like a good idea. I never think twice about heating my soup up in the microwave or sending that text to Josh. It never crosses my mind. This is because at that particular time it seems incredibly important to me. Josh needs to now I am here. My soup must be warm. But now, when I am writing down these facts, I can't help but think about what will happen to energy sources when we have ten billion people in the world, billions of which are doing the exact same thing.
Whenever I am for some reasons too happy and I want to become a little sadder I think about what the world will look like when I am 50 years old. That's right: in 2050 there is estimated to be 10 billion people in the world. What will happen then? Whenever I think about this day, I always picture over population and people being sent to Mars because of the limit of space on the planet. Although this won't probably happen in 2050, ten billion is a scary number. Come 2050, we must be far along in the discovery and use of renewable energy. Because if we don't, there will be hell to pay. We can not rely on fracking that much longer.

Environment Reflection
For the past two weeks in Cultures Class, my classmates and I have done two presentations on the environment. The first presentation was about the affects of natural disasters on the environment. My groups presentation was about the Aral Sea. When we learned about the destruction that man reeks on the ecosystem simply for our own needs, I was able to see just how fragile our planet is how it is our duty to keep care of it. If we were able to find a renewable source of water for our cotton plants, then we would not have to take water from a place that once fertile sea to a dried up dessert.
Affects of humans on animals.
The second presentation that I was a part of was about invasive species and their affects of the planet. I was able to learn that we are really killing our own world. The Chinese Privet, a beautiful plant, chews up an immense amount of top soil and deems it almost un reusable One inch of top soil takes roughly One Hundred years for the earth to make. But we still are buying the Chinese Privet because they make good hedges.
